Is Advanced Sonar Technology Worth the Investment for Freshwater Fishing?
My uncle Tim Watson Kab Angling Adventures - local Kabetogama legend was talking to me about recent articles that I've put out and said "you should do something about fishing without all the fancy electronics". "The Griz" Dick Grzywinski, is a walleye legend that often talks about the traditional ways of finding depth and structure as keys to find walleyes. These two legends got me thinking. ..do we rely on technology to much? Are we losing the ways or how we fished 10, 15, 20 years...

"Ice out" effects on Spring Walleye Patterns
Spring Patterns - “what will late ice out do?” "What about low or high-water levels?" By Wade Watson “Kab Kid” Walleyes spawn in spring, but when is “spring” to a walleye? In our backyard of northern Minnesota "spring" or ice-out can vary by weeks or months. In 2024, ice out was maybe in March, while 2025 ice went out on Kabetogama May 9th (day before opener). What about this year? As I write this (April 7th) we have 5-8 inches of snow covering 31" of ice near the Kabetogama visitor...

Spring Fishing Adventures on the Rainy River: Catching Walleyes Amidst the Excitement
Open water fishing excitement? Not yet on my home lake of Kabetogama but the Rainy River this time of year always creates a buzz. *As of this week- 24-30" of ice still on Kabetogama (my source Tim Watson aka FishKab) So to dream about open water fishing, maybe you're a Pool 2, or 3 guy down by Redwing, MN...but i've always loved the thrill of the Rainy River in the spring!
